Field Crew Member

About the Role

Tangerini’s Farm grows over 70 acres of fruits and vegetables following organic farming practices. Our mission is to strengthen our local food chain by growing quality fruits and vegetables for our community. Our field crew consists of 10-12 driven, hardworking members who enjoy a good day’s work. Field crew members work in all weather and are responsible for harvesting, washing, and packing produce to high quality standards along with other fruit and vegetable production tasks. The crew works directly with Crew Manager, Owner, and Production Manager. Tangerini’s distributes produce via our farm store, multiple farmer’s markets, and wholesale to other farms, restaurants, and other vendors.
Depending on performance, employees that perform well will be rewarded in the first few months. All new employees will come to the farm on a two-week trial basis. Good workers will find themselves in good company.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Harvesting a variety of produce using conveyor harvester and hand harvesting

  • Washing/preparing produce for markets and wholesale

  • Field projects such as tomato/pepper staking, row covers, irrigation/frost protection set up and breakdown

  • Transplanting on a mechanical transplanter, hand transplanting greenhouses

  • Weeding- using hand tools, some hand weeding

  • Other tasks involved with vegetable production


  • Important Skills for this Position:

  • Interest in organic farming practices

  • Farming experience is a plus but not necessary for the right person

  • At least 16 years of age

  • Reliable transportation to work

  • Ability to work efficiently based on priorities, willingness to take direction initiative, and constructive criticism

  • Ability to provide proactive, honest and constructive communication about workAbility to lift 50lbs repeatedly and easily, and to hustle through a physically busy day

  • Reliability and punctuality

  • Familiarity with produce and plants a plus

  • Cleans up their work space when the task is completed

  • Capable of doing tedious and sometimes strenuous task for several hours at a time

  • The desire to learn will lead to other farming opportunities and growth with the business

  • Sense of humor and a positive attitude


Schedule and Benefits:

  • Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm with rotating Saturdays in busy months

  • Starting date is flexible but main season is May-October, potential hours in March/April

  • Full time applicants preferred, but not required

  • Compensation starts at $15.00/hour. Employees who perform well will be rewarded in first few months.

  • Free vegetables when in good supply and picked on your own time
