Tangerini's Spring Street Farm

Frequently Asked Questions About CSAs

We are now accepting applications for the 2010 season. CSA Information.

Can we share a share?
One share is designated to one household, and we encourage each household to purchase their own share. This household receives all CSA mailings and is responsible for payment. If the share is consistently too large for your household, you can fill your bag less full, knowing that we donate the daily surplus to local food pantries, women’s shelters and the elderly.

Is Tangerini’s Farm CSA organic?
At Tangerini Farms CSA, Green manures and legume cover crops are planted to fix nitrogen, build soil organic matter, and prevent erosion. Seeds are organic when available, with inclusion of heirloom and open pollinated varieties. We control pests primarily through the use of crop rotations, biological insecticides, mechanical and hand weeding, and cultural practices such as the use of row covers and trap crops.

Tangerini's Farm offers CSA members a choice to volunteer, and learn more about the food they eat.Our practices are guided by the National Organic Standards and by our own goals for achieving a sustainable system. Because the CSA farmers and crew have personal interactions and relationships with the shareholders, we find it an unnecessary step to apply for, or pay the expenses of, federal organic certification. We invite all shareholders and farm visitors to spend a day with us, walk through our fields and check out our compost - come see for yourself how we farm. Let's keep it local!

Does the farm offer any delivered shares?
All CSA shares are picked up by the shareholders at the farm in Millis.  We encourage you to share the responsibility of picking up with someone in your area

Can we purchase other products through the CSA?
We are looking to offer in the future, other, locally grown products through the CSA, including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, plums, apples, honey, milk and meat.

How much produce is a share?
Enough food should be in a share to feed a family of four, or two people who love to cook. You can expect between 12-40 lbs per week, depending on the week. Invariably, one or several crops each week will be in short supply, and will be "limited" in the share that week.

When deciding what goes into a weekly distribution, we provide a variety of itmes in a reasonable quantity. We want to make sure you receive value in your share without overwhelming you. We have found that too much overwhelms shareholders and the produce ends up going to waste.

Should I expect all my produce to come from the CSA?

Depending on the size of your family, and how much you cook, how much you eat out, you will probably have to supplement your share, especially staples like onions, garlic, and carrots. You are always welcome to purchase additional fruits and vegetables from our farm stand. We also offer seasonal fruit during the course of the season at our CSA distribution that can be purchased separately.

Be sure to bring the family with you to pick up your CSA shares at Tangerini's Farm, Millis, Massachusetts. What crops are grown?
In all, we grow close to 120 varieties of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. Since each variety has it own season, all varieties will not be available every week, but you will have a fantastic selection most weeks. See our Sample Harvest Calendar for more specifics.

Can I make a donation to help us receive healthy food?
Yes, purchasing a Food-To-Share helps lower income families eat healthy and enjoy the farm with you. Tangerini's Farm is partnering with the Franklin Food Pantry to help bring fresh produce to those in need. You do not need to buy a food share for yourself in order to help us with the Food to Share program: For those purchasing only a Food-To-Share, you are invited to participate in all farm events, a significant value itself.

These monies fund half the share cost, the other half is donated by the farm. We hope  that in the years to come many shareholders will participate in this effort. Please join us and give $25, $50, $100 or..., making fresh and local produce accessible to everyone.Click here to make your gift online, or mail a check to us marked "Food to Share" program.
